Break down your reading response journal into manageable chunks that target specific skills! Perfect for both school and home practice!
I created the "Brain Dump" after seeing my special education students struggling with typical reading response journals that were more writing heavy . also found that many journal responses didn't focus on literal comprehension, something that all my students still needed continued work on.
With one simple activity your students will work on the following reading skills: Determining importance, recalling information, summarizing, predicting, evaluating, monitoring comprehension, questioning, and making connection.
Download includes: Directions for use, Brain Dump directions for students, sample brain dump for students, and a diagram showing what reading strategies that are used. (Both parents and students LOVE seeing the strategies broken down!)
