This package contains 60 pages of Brainstorms---enough for all year! I used this product with my 2nd graders this year after seeing how much they struggled to brainstorm basic ideas during the writing process. I am beyond amazed at their growth!!!
How it's used: I copied these brainstorms into a booklet for my students. Two times a week, before beginning instruction, students would open to the brainstorm for the day. After a dramatic "Ready, set, GO!" students would get 2 minutes to brainstorm as many things as they could aligning to the concept. (Next year, I think I'm going to start with 5 minutes and decrease the time from there.)
After 2 minutes, I'd scream "STOP!" at which point the students would drop their pencils and put their hands in the air. (We call it the "No Pencil Zone.") Students are then directed to pick up their pencils and pick ONE answer they feel is truly unique. We'd then go around the class and share answers, and I'd award the outside of the box answers with a sticker in the book.
MY STUDENTS LOVE THIS!!!! :)
One other note---On 2 or 3 pages, you'll notice a brainstorm entitled "Things that start with the letter _________" This is totally your call on the letter. I tell the kids I will take the next person who walks by our classroom and ask them to give me a letter, or, my colleague has a letter dice she rolls to choose a letter.
