This 15 page branches of government packet specifically covers 4th grade Common Core Standards SL.4.1a , SL.4.1b , SL.4.1d , SL.4.4, SL.4.6 but could easily be made part of a social studies government unit at other grade levels.
There are a few different activities included. This packet is set up for students to jigsaw the branches of government (students break into groups, become experts on a branch, and then return to the rest of the class to teach about their branch). Students will take notes on key parts of their branches to use while preparing their presentation. After studying a branch, students have the choice of 6 ways to present to the class (a rap, a poster, a newscast, etc.). Once the presentations are finished, students will be given Exit Cards to write something about each branch that they learned from the presentations. This can be turned in and assessed. 2 rubrics are included. One for the students to assess each other and their participation in the planning and one for you to assess the presentation.
There is also a sorting activity in the packet. Students are given 12 different details about the branches of government and will determine which branch the detail belongs to. After this, students will communicate their answers to you via worksheet. Students also can use the sorting cards to write details about the branches of government.
Thanks so much for looking! Enjoy!
