Want to make learning about the government more engaging? Then, try this government simulation! Students will engage in the legislative process of making a bill into a law.
The activity includes the following:
-Students will act as members of Congress and brainstorm ideas for bills independently.
-Students will then present their bills to committees (small groups of students)
-Each committees will choose one of the presented bills to present to the House of Representatives/Senate (larger class groups).
-The House of Representatives/Senate will provide feedback on the bills and vote on them.
-If the bill passes in the House of Representatives, it moves to the Senate to be voted on and vice versa.
-If the bill passes in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the President (teacher) can sign or veto the law.
