The following is an anticipation guide for Brave New World. It includes detailed questions that encourage students to think about the various themes present in the novel. Students are asked to address what makes us human, and ultimately what traits lead to human conflicts.
Students are asked to brainstorm remedies for such conflicts in preparation for the "remedies" provided in Brave New World.
Through this assignment, students should arrive at the idea that while some of our traits are responsible for many of the conflicts in this world -- it is still what makes us human, and to dispose of such traits is to take away our humanity.
Great discussions can arise after students complete these questions individually. I've had great success in having students brainstorm together after they've worked on these questions.
