Brave New World Chapter 3
It's very important for students to recognize the satirical parallels that Huxley creates in this chapter.
I created this for my students who are always frustrated by the format of this chapter.
In Chapter 3, World Controller Mustapha Mond speaks to the touring students about the origins of the BNW.
While this lecture takes place in the garden, Henry, the Assistant Predestinator, and Bernard converse in the elevator;
Lenina and Fanny chat in the locker room,
and hypnopaedic slogans are quietly broadcast in the nursery.
These conversations, slogans, and the characters’ activities parallel or contrast the topics that Mustapha presents in the garden.
Students receive a chart that provides a list of Mustapha’s topics with brief elaboration in the first column.
Other cells in the chart are marked with a star.
These stars indicate that Mustapha’s topic is addressed in one or more of the other locations in the fertilization and conditioning center.
Students must identify the matching discussion, slogan, or activity in the box provided.
The first one is completed as an example.

There is also one question at the end about the biblical allusion that MM makes, why it's appropriate, how it characterizes him, and what foreshadowing of the allusion's association is in chapter 3.
This activity is an effective way to guide kids through a sometimes confusing chapter.
