You can use these cards for you students for when they need to take a break and calm their body.
This is a great resource for all those who have a student that sometimes needs a little prompting to calm their bodies down. These are 5 different break cards to use for added support for students that sometimes need assistance requesting a break when they start to feel upset or need help communicating their frustrations.
I often let my students use 5 cards daily for when they need a break. They can have up to 10 minutes of a break per card. Once they use all 5 cards, they are no longer able to take a break.
This helps the students to start to self regulate when they start to become frustrated or upset. At first, you may need to assist the students in deciding when they need that break. After teaching this to them, they will start to be able to ask for a break when needed on their own.
You can incorporate skills, such as time management, into these cards as well. The students can (once being taught to) watch the time and learn when it has been 10 minutes (or the designated break time).
I often use these cards with my students who are easily upset and have trouble sharing their feelings independently.
Simply print out the cards and laminate them (so you don't need to print new ones out every 2 weeks). I usually print mine on card stock so they can last even longer.
I hope this can help your students the way they have helped mine!
