This product includes a yearlong program that teaches students the roots prefixes, and suffixes found in words, rather than specific vocabulary words. It is a system that trains students to use the skill they need, to know how to break words apart, in order to decipher the meaning of difficult words while reading. It is a progressive program that is teacher-directed heavily in the beginning, and student-directed completely in the end. Students will learn, practice, and be quizzed on prefixes/suffixes/root words every week for 25 weeks. On the 26th week they will be given a unit test on the words they have learned that year. They will use their knowledge of those prefixes/roots to break apart other words in which those words are found. This system will not only help students determine the meaning of unfamiliar words the very year they participate in the program, but it will teach them a life skill of breaking apart words; something that can be taken with them throughout their entire educational career. This is the first level of 3 levels that I offer. If you are interested in all 3 levels together, you can purchase the Break it Down Complete Middle School Program for either grades 6-8, or tiered levels for low, general, and advanced students in one grade level. This item includes: Common Core Standards, Virginia State Standards, Implementation Guide, BID Chart and key, Monday worksheets and answer key, Wednesday worksheets and answer key, Friday tests and answer key, Unit review handout, Unit test and answer key, and an Easy score grid for computing scores.
