Here is an additional resource to use with your level 1 Break It Down students. This resource can be used as a homework assignment for extra practice outside of the classroom, or as extra practice within the classroom. The 50 page document consists of "A" Handouts and "B" handouts for each week's set of roots, prefixes and suffixes. This document follows the same order as Break it Down level one, and therefore the students will be practicing the same terms already learned that week.
Here is the basic idea:
Students will either pair up in the classroom, or as homework partners. If they are doing it as a homework assignment they will need to have each others phone numbers so they can incorporate texting into the assignment,
One student will receive the "A" handout, which has half of the terms and definitions filled in, while the other student receives the "B" handout, which has the missing items from A. Students will work together to fill in missing information such as the root, prefix, suffix, or definition from each others handouts.
This activity is meant as a quick and fun practice that will get the students up and active, or using a technology they know very well.
