Product Description
An elementary Break Out/Escape Room by Kathy Applebee. Students will measure to find equivalent customary and metric liquid capacity / volume, be exposed to mnemonics to remember how many equivalents in the customary system and work as a team to unlock the locks.

Unlike many escape room/ break outs, how to solve to clues is easy to figure out so this makes a good introductory activity for new or novice players/ teachers or if you just want to focus on the math.

Included are intro activity, clues, directions, editable rubric, standards for 3-5 grades, discussion questions, exit ticket and photo op signs.

Ideal Group Size: classroom divided into groups of 4-5. Suggested Time: 5 minute introduction, 30 - 35 minute playing time, additional time for reflection and exit tickets

MATERIALS NEEDED
I use materials from both Breakout.edu and Lakeshore for this one)
3 lock boxes (one must fit inside another)
1 plain keyed lock and key
6 lock hasp
1 color lock and 7 number locks (I use Lakeshore addition locks with duct tape covering the numbers on the locks plus the Lakeshore keys. If you use regular locks and keys you will need to attach a number to each lock). These 7 keys are placed in a container with other “red herring keys” – keys that have bogus equations and will not open any locks. The Lakeshore set has 40 keys, 2 for each number 1-20.

Materials for measuring per group – teaspoon, tablespoon, gallon, quart, pint, cup and measuring cup with both metric and customary. A container with 3-4 gallons of water per group.
Optional: Dictionaries (for root word clue)
