Coordinate Grid Break Out
Students will determine coordinates of objects on a grid, mark a grid given coordinates, calculate distance between points, create a rectangle on a grid given 3 vertices, solve real world word problems using information on a grid, create and interpret a line graph, add fractions.

Included are clues .PDF and customizable rubric as well as reflection/discussion questions/ exit ticket and links to introductory activity.

Recommended Ages/ target audience: Upper elementary. The emphasis of this beginning break out is more about solving the puzzles than figuring out HOW a puzzle might lead to a way to unlock a lock. This activity works well for both first time teachers, leaders and students.

Ideal Group Size: 4-5 per group. Suggested Time: 45-55 minutes plus reflection and introduction

STORY: You are headed to the water park when the bus is caught in a traffic jam gridlock. Can you open the boxes to find the remote control that will turn your bus into a flying vehicle? Or will you sit in traffic, wasting your time?

MATERIALS NEEDED besides PDFs included in this product
2 lock boxes (Break Out.edu large and small box, 6 lock hasp, 5 letter, 3 number, 4 number, color and directional locks, 2 regular locks and keys and a remote control (It need not be working)
