Break the code is a fun way to practice reading and writing CVC words, as well as, rhyming, and phoneme substitution.
Students use the code to figure out what the CVC words are. Once they have written the words, they will follow the directions to write a new word on the line. They will be asked to write a word that rhymes with it, or, to substitute the initial, medial, or final phoneme. Talk about maximizing learning!
There are 6 different sheets for each skill, making a total of 24 different break the code printables.

6 Break the Code, Write the Word, Change the Initial Phoneme

There is an optional sentence writing template that can be copied on the back.

I also included a blank template for each of the skills. You can add your own words, or, your students can try making their own break the code for a friend to solve.
These activity sheets are perfect for:

Students will LOVE breaking the code and using their thinking skills to come up with a rhyming word, or to change the first, middle, or last letter in the code words.
