This hands-on, interactive game allows students to work collaboratively in teams and learn how to count atoms in chemical formulas. They have the opportunity to practice counting atoms with many different formulas and obtain points for each one they get right. Then once students have mastered the skill in their teams, there is a student assessment page that allows each student to demonstrate individual mastery of counting atoms with 10 different compounds and answer questions that allow them to compare and contrast the number of atoms and elements in different formulas.
Big idea: Chemical substances are part of our everyday life, and we use chemical formulas to show the makeup of each of those chemicals. Each chemical formula allows us to see exactly how many atoms of each element are present in a molecule of that substance.
