This four paragraph letter encourages students to enter the mind of Binky Lopes-Nande, and write from her point of view. It's a great activity for understanding her character including her thoughts, feelings, and motivations in regards to Paul Richmond. It's also a great way for students to be creative while showing their comprehension of the novel's characters, conflicts, and plot.
The activity is student-friendly and provides step-by-step instructions for each paragraph. It closely follows the format of a personal letter, thereby giving students practice with their letter writing skills. In addition, a corresponding, Common Core alligned rubric is provided that can be used to grade the assignment.
