This escape the room style *breakout* activity is extremely engaging. It requires students to collaborate, problem solve, and think critically while utilizing their content knowledge. Not to mention, it is a great way to reinforce the importance of reading directions carefully!
I have adapted the normal breakout/escape the room challenges to be EXTREMELY low prep! Essentially all you have to do is print the resources and go! It is also a great way to see who has mastered certain skills and who requires further guidance. The kids won't even know you're assessing them- they'll be too busy having fun working through the challenges :)
The primary focus of this Literature Breakout Challenge is Ask and Answer Questions. I provide my students with 40 minutes to "breakout" by solving all of the challenges before time runs out! However, you can modify the time to fit your students' needs.
This particular Breakout focuses on one main reading standard. However, other standards are also incorporated.
The third grade standards/skills included in this Breakout are as follows:
Ask and Answer Questions: Literature
Parts of Speech
This is the first of many Breakouts that will be added to my site. Be on the lookout for more!
Folktales and Fables
Literal and Nonliteral Language
