This is a ready-to-use, 30 page packet of materials to use with students in grades 4-7 who are reading Brian’s Return, by Gary Paulsen. Included is a 17 page student booklet plus a bookmark for keeping track of vocabulary words as students read. An answer key is included for the teacher as well. Included also is an optional mapping activity which may be used as a culmination or for differentiation for certain students as they read the book.
The student booklet contains four reading assignments with 4 pages of questions and tasks to go with each one. The booklets are designed to be used independently so that students may be working while the teacher is meeting with other groups. The questions and tasks in this booklet cover and reinforce the skills that good readers and writers need to understand and maintain; they are aligned with Common Core Standards. Skills and tasks include comprehension, summarizing, visualizing, questioning, clarifying, similes, idioms, connecting to the text, compare and contrast, recognizing setting and point-of-view. The packet gives students essential practice in writing to explain their thinking and to demonstrate their understanding
