As students read Brian's Winter, they will create the apps they would find on Brian's phone. There are 4 apps in total: a song, a contact (with text conversation), a game, and a photo app. There is a smart phone to collect the app's icons. For each of the 4 apps, I have included an assignment sheet (with spaces for the students to fill in their answers), an example using "Older Run," and a grading sheet. The students will have a blast studying the novel in detail, and they will practice conflict, characterization, making connections, critical thinking, and quoting from a book. Each app goes with a different set of chapters. The projects will each take a couple of class days to work through for a total of approximately 8 nonconsecutive days.
