This is a unit based upon the novel "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson. It has been aligned to the new common core standards. You will be receiving everything you need to teach this unit! You are receiving 3 weeks of lesson plans that are ready to print out and paste into your plan book. You will also be receiving a list of vocabulary words for each of the 2 weeks you are teaching the novel as well as vocabulary organizers, games to play with the words, and quizzes with keys.
This bundle also includes many power points to teach the daily skills you are assessing through the novel. Power points using a strategy called preview-predict-confirm, contrast charts, quickwrites,10 important words, and a character change activity are also available with this purchase. You will also be receiving links to a jeopardy review game, a fact and opinion game, and a simile / metaphor power point.
You will also receive a template to let your students create a "tree" craftivity that outlines how Jess changes throughout the novel.. This will allow the students to reflect and analyze the changes that occur throughout the novel and how they effect Jess. A variety of comprehension activities are included as well: Fact and Opinion, Sequencing, an activity where students summarize a chapter based upon their choice of 10 important words from the chapter, cause and effect, text dependent questions, a persuasive essay that allows the students to reassess their values, and an organizer to compare the text to the movie. Students will also be participating in an activity to become familiar with similes and metaphors. A power point link is included as well as a group activity. A final test has been included with a key. An additional bonus is the booklet of note-taking organizers that will keep students engaged throughout the novel. This booklet will assess a variety of skills: inferring, drawing conclusions, visualizing, predicting, identifying characters, and figurative language. This is a great resource to use while students are reading the text. All of the reading graphic organizers that students will complete have been placed in a single file that students will work on throughout the novel.
Finally, you will be receiving directions for students to participate in a gallery walk. Students will walk around the classroom and read various quotes from the book. They will "tweet" or reflect on that portion of the text and make a comment. These pages can be combined into a class book.
My students LOVE this unit! I hope you will consider sharing this unit with your students as well. Thanks!
