This unit allows students to identify commonalities in the structure and function of various bridges, gain knowledge about different types of bridge structures, including beam, arch, suspension, truss, and cable-stayed bridges, familiarize themselves with the design features of Catchbook and design a bridge using design elements from existing bridges as discussed in previous lessons, collaborate with their group to create their final bridge design and determine what materials they will need to create a model of their bridge, and build a model of their bridge designs, test the strength of their bridges, and record data.
This unit would be great for class STEM time or maker spaces!
This unit utilizes Catchbook by Siemens PLM Software. Catchbook is a 2D sketching tool available from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Windows Store.
