Too many times we find ourselves jumping from unit to unit without giving the kind of context we would like to give when teaching our country's history. This package should help with that!
I created this to be used a a walkabout, but it could easily be jigsawed, or used whole group.
It introduces the following names:
1. Nat Turner
2. Dred Scott
3. John Brown
4. Ulysses S. Grant
5. Robert E. Lee
6. Jefferson Davis
It covers the following topics:
1. Nat Turner's Rebellion
2. Amistad Slave Ship
3. War of 1812
4. Missouri Compromise
5. North/South development description
6. Manifest Destiny
7. The Mexican War
8. Dred Scott Case
9. John Brown's Raid on Harpers Ferry
10. The Fugitive Slave Act
11. Kansas-Nebraska Act
I tried to keep the descriptions short and interesting, and each piece has a primary document (graph, map, illustration, replica, etc.) that can be used as well. It comes with a graphic organizer with an open-ended questions meant to get the student's discussing and really thinking about what was happening in the United States during that time.
*All documents are WORD and can be changed to focus on the information you would like.
