This document is meant to be used in a 12th Grade British Literature and Composition course. It could also work well in a 10th Grade World Literature course if you are currently focusing on works from England. This project has an individual component and a group component as well. It begins with students choosing from five different British texts (poems and essays), choosing two assignments out of six offered in a choice board, and then completing an accompanied piece of creative writing. After mastering their poem individually, students then form groups with the people in the class who chose their same poem and create a presentation for the class. This way, all students are exposed to all poems. This project in total can last about 3 weeks depending on how much time your students need and how much time you see them in a day.
These projects are truly differentiated and offer your students voice and choice in their learning experience. The most difficult part about personalized learning is the work on the front end - luckily for you, I've already done that work! :) There is no rubric/scoring guide attached, as each teacher may wish to address different competencies/standards. You will want to create your own scoring guide based on the needs of your students and the demands of your school.
