The test includes 10 questions (some require a paragraph answer, others short answer) on Coleridge's "Kubla Khan" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," the Byronic hero, John Keats' "To Autumn," William Blake's "Songs of Innocence and Experience," Shelley's "Ozymandius," and the general views of the Romantic poets.
This test worked really well with my students because they were required to write in-depth and thoughtful answers that related to their lives in addition to providing accurate details about the poetry.
I presented this as an open-book test, but AP students could do this without notes or books. It works best to divide this test over two 45-minute class periods. The questions could also be used as cumulative essay or journal prompts.
