This pack contains 14 worksheets which focus on inference skills and deducing information from known facts. I originally created these questions for my class using American-English words for them to translate into British-English (we are in the UK!) It really helped them to practice their inference skills to read beyond the literal and take meaning from a paragraph. I decided to reverse the idea for all the American and Canadian TpT’ers so their classes could have a go ‘translating’ British English into American English.
The first 7 worksheets have 3 questions on each and require the children to write the answer. The next 7 sheets use the same passages but have a multiple choice answer to help children who are finding it trickier. All texts are original and written by me. I have left questions numbers off these sheets so they can be used in any order or cut out and laminated for a quick fire session! There is also an answer sheet at the end to refer to.
It might also be fun to find out what British people call things and compare them to the American version. This could lead to research about original of words and investigating etymology or even a debate about which word is better!
If you like this product, I have a reading freebie

I hope your class enjoy learning about British English and that you find the resource time saving and useful.
