This is a great group project - you can do this as a class or in small groups or pairs. It gets students thinking about what issues are important to them, allows them to become investigative, and to seek out resources in their community to study the issue in depth. This is great for a class working on performance, producing, interviewing, and news writing.
Students will develop a show about an issue of their choosing. In the project they will build background by first watching a news magazine like 20/20 to see how the program is structured, then brainstorm ideas for what the focus of their program will be. Students will conduct recorded or live interviews, create an opening by editing video with music and photos or video, write a script, practice anchoring, and collaborate as a group. This can be done in pairs or groups. Script template and grading rubric included.
