Broken heart? Have no fear! Join the “Broken Hearts Club”! With these fun and interactive games and worksheets your students will practice partwork in a fun and engaging way!
There are two interactive PDF files included, one in stick notation and one in stick notation with note heads. Within each PDF are three different hearts to choose from. From there, students pick “level 1” (4 beat patterns), “level 2” (8 beat patters) or “level 3” (16 beat patterns). They then practice both sides of the heart with contrasting rhythms. Then, the class is divided in half, with one group performing the left side of the heart and the other performing the right side of the heart. You could also use this in centers via a laptop or iPad with small groups or individuals.
There are 22 worksheets, with different ways to practice partwork:
* Rhythmic transcription, with varying lengths (4, 8 & 16 beats)- great for formative and summative assessments!
* Composition and transcription of a partner’s rhythm, with varying lengths of beats (4, 8, 16 beats). This is a great peer assessment!
* Dictation, with the rhythm provided by the teacher, with varying lengths of beats (4, 8, 16 beats).
* Mix & Match hearts to perform rhythms with other students, with varying lengths of beats (4, 8, 16 beats).
*** All rhythm patterns are extracted from song literature, which is listed at the end of each PDF file.
*** These files are NOT specific to a counting system so they will work with whichever counting system you use with your students.
