This is a fun and engaging activity that has students measuring the lengths and dimensions of snacks to see if the "snacks" pass inspection and can be put in the snack bag. Students choose from the snacks, measure them with a broken ruler, then record the results on their log. There are three ways to differentiate it. The inspection sheets are for greater than 2 inches, between 1 and 2 inches, or less than 1 inch. Also the snacks come in various sizes: to whole inches, to 1/2 inches, and to 1/4 and 3/4 inches, like 1 3/4s. And finally the broken rulers have different numbers too. My students love this math center! Fun for CC standard 2.MD.1.
