This unit includes a prezi. Prezi is similar to a power point presentation, but better in so many ways. This prezi introduces students to the book "Bronx Masquerade" and key people and terms within the book.
I have used this lesson with my 8th grade students, both mild/moderate sped. and general education students. The visuals, clips and songs make this more accessible for a variety of learners, hitting many modalities. My students found this engaging and were able to have thoughtful discussions on topics presented. My students love this book. They made so many connections. I have 49 minute periods and this took us about 1 1/2 -2 months. The length depends on discussions and how much you have your students work together. This lesson would also be appropriate for 8-9th grade students.
I hope this unit engages your students as it did mine!
**This is a zip file, so you will need to know how to unzip. I have a free download on how to do this and tpt also provides instructions on how to unzip. If you are using a PC, getting the prezi downloaded may take several minutes, so please be patient. If you are on a mac it is almost instantaneous. Because there is also a prezi with videos your computer will also need to have a flash player. I create the zip files using a MAC, so sometimes when downloaded on a PC users get confused because there are empty files that appear. I am not sure why this happens, but be aware. The prezi and the files are there, but there are additional empty folders.
