Attached is a PowerPoint Presentation is designed to correspond with children’s literature book, "Brother Eagle, Sister Sky" with illustrations by Susan Jeffers. It is a Guided Reading Level M book based on the plea made by Chief Seattle in the mid-1850s to the US government to care for the land as the Native American had cared for it.
There is an introduction activity that corresponds with the book, “Legends of the Iroquois” where students would read the short story about conservation as an introduction to the lesson, but this could skipped. The lesson would begin with the “Big Questions.”
Students will answer the Big Questions: What is culture? Why explore multiculturalism, review vocabulary terms from the story, read the story, answer leveled questions, and identify literary elements. It includes 20 questions (10 right there questions and 10 inferential questions). I print these slides and distribute them to groups to categorize and answer.
The PowerPoint is 17 slides in length.
This is one PowerPoint that could be used independently or to accompany the PDF file found in my store as well. I really enjoy this book. I hope this is a helpful resource for you!
