This product is a zip file to correspond with the children's book, “Brother Eagle, Sister Sky”. It is a Guided Reading Level M book based on the plea made by Chief Seattle in the mid-1850s to the US government to care for the land as the Native American had cared for it. This includes a 17 slide PowerPoint presentation, 9 page printable to correspond with the lesson. It also includes a ticket out the door for immediate assessment. The actual book is NOT included with this lesson.
There is an introduction activity that corresponds with the book, “Legends of the Iroquois” where students would read the short story about conservation as an introduction to the lesson, but this could skipped. The lesson would begin with the “Big Questions.”
The first two pages offer "Big Questions: What is culture? Why explore multiculturalism?" Then, it reviews text based vocabulary. The second page has discussion questions and a simile/metaphor section.
Then, there are 20 questions. There are 10 "Right There" questions and 10 Inferential questions. I print out the questions and give a set to each group. The students categorize the questions and then answer them. There is a key for the questions as well.
This is a great book and I love discussing the illustrations with the kids. PowerPoint Presentation is designed to correspond with printables. There are also slides designed for the teacher to print and cut into strips for a cooperative learning task.
