This is a fun and easy cultural activity for Día de los Muertos.
Students choose a famous person, fictional character, or a loved one in their life who has passed away and create a "brown bag ofrenda" for them by drawing favorite foods, personal items, and toys. There are other typical ofrenda items for them to color and include as well. Students then cut out the cards and place them into a brown bag (many of my students chose to use an envelope instead, which also worked just fine) with the person or character's name and photo on the front.
Students use these brown bag ofrendas to present orally to the class or to complete a writing activity by labelling the cards.
Could be used as a homework or an in-class activity.
