It allows better visualization of the parts of a sentence, and they are able to physically manipulate the words, engaging more modalities for better learning. The repetitive sentences help with learning sentence structure. Children learn carry over knowledge of what the animals in their favorite story eat and where they live. You can also teach categorization (e.g., the animals that live in your home are a dog and goldfish).
This sentence strip helps expand the child's repertoire of sentences they use when reading this beloved children's story, rather than the repetitive sentence many have already route learned.
