PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Brown Girl Dreaming is a 2015 Newberry Honor Book written by Jacqueline Woodson. It is also a National Book Award winner and a Coretta Scott King winner. It is written in poetic form and tells Jacqueline's story of growing up during the 1960s and 1970s.

This guide is Common Core aligned and would be excellent for literature circles, whole-class instruction, or for individual readers.

Each "chapter" includes comprehension questions and critical thinking questions that are intended to require students to think about WHY not just "what".

I have included a list of writing prompts for journals or for longer pieces of writing.

An answer key is provided.
