Your students will start chewing their way into this collection of bubble gum science experiments! Everything you need to run a great series of activities is provided in this resource. All descriptions, result tables, and procedures are included for the experiments below:
-Chewing and the Soluble Mass of the Gum
-How Long will the Flavor last?
-Blind Taste Preference Activity
-Average Diameter of Blown Bubbles
These activities are heavy in math integration. It is impressive to discover how much mass is lost during chewing! There is a line graph, bar graph and % loss calculations. Custom graphic paper is included with the X and Y axis labeled. Finally, there is a template for a student-made, paper caliper that is used to measure the diameter of the bubbles.
These activities are ideal for group work, as each student in the group chews one piece of gum for each experiment. The activities can be done independently or incorporated into a group bubble gum poster. The rubric for this poster is also provided.
