It’s a clip chart with a twist! I loved the idea of a clip chart where students can go down AND up, but it didn’t fit in with the bucket filling concept that the rest of my team was teaching. One day I had an epiphany—just cut and paste the buckets onto the chart! One GIANT laminating project later, and I had a clip chart that my kinders understand and respond to that will last for years.
This pack contains the graphics necessary to print and assemble your own bucket fillers clip chart. There are four different options to meet your needs (including two where you can add your own labels), and it can be printed in black and white or in color. The teacher directions are all in English but the printed labels for the chart are in Spanish. You will also need a clothespin for each child in your class, thick tag board, poster board, or thin cardboard, and yarn or thin rope for hanging.

How We Use this System
At the beginning of each year we read the books “Have you Filled a Bucket Today?” (available in Spanish) and “Fill a Bucket: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Young Children” (only available in English but so worth paraphrasing as you go!) by Bucket Fillers, Inc. You can learn more about these books and other resources available for parents, teachers, and schools at www.bucketfillers101.com. To support the language we use each day in class around bucket filling and bucket dipping, my partner teacher and I developed both whole-group and individual behavior management systems using the bucket filling concept. Here is what we do:
-Read bucket filling books at beginning of year (purchased from www.bucketfillers101.com)
-Each child gets a turn to take home a copy of the books to read with his or her family and return the next day in the first month (or two) of school
-Whole group behavior is reinforced by adding or removing fuzzy pom poms into a small metal bucket. The whole class earns a reward when the bucket is full, then it is dumped out and we start again
- For individual behavior we use a clip chart system that we have tied together with the image of a bucket to help young children see the concrete connection between their actions and behavior choices and how those affect their feelings, as well as the feelings of others.
