Bucket Drumming, Speech Piece, Body Percussion: Ode to Fruitcake

- PDF

Description
Speech pieces, body percussion, and bucket drumming are great activities that students enjoy, especially when popular children's literature is involved. With program planning and just the general anticipation of a holiday, many teachers want activities that focus on concepts, but yet keep the students engaged. This new From Body to Bucket activity, Ode to Fruitcake, is a multi-activity lesson approach that can fill that time while staying on task. The activity is loosely based on words from the last two chapters of Junie B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake by Barbara Park. There are two arrangements, one simpler for your younger students and later learners, and a more advanced version that includes sixteenth note and eighth/sixteenth patterns.
Students go from speech piece, to body percussion, to bucket drumming, and even regular drumming with independent parts. Enrichment is provided so there are opportunities for solo student improvisation, rhythm matching, and rondo group work. The packet contains:
- Scores for teacher with words
- Step-by-step processes
- Enrichment activities for solo improvisation and rondo creation group work
- Word and rhythm cards for Enrichment for the group work
- Check list assessment for enrichment
- Student self assessment sheet
- Teacher rubric
