This is a bulletin board you will be proud to display in your classroom. There are 83 pages of printable material that you will want to print on a color printer. It includes 24 photos, most with captions, relating to the novel, Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. Also included are 20 character sheets, each with character descriptions. I printed my characters on light gray paper. Use 62 - 70 lb. paper for the characters. It works best for the display. Check out the photos in the preview section.
The twenty character’s names are printed on images of rocks (with varying colors of granite grains). Print them by reversing each sheet of paper and printing the character description inside the folded paper. They are draped over a string or ribbon so that your students may remove them from the bulletin board to review and test their knowledge. The characters include: Bud Caldwell, Angela Janet Caldwell, Jerry Clark, Mr. & Mrs. Amos, Todd Amos, Herman E. Calloway, Bugs, Deza Malone, Miss Hill, Billy Burns, Lefty Lewis, Mrs. Sleet, Kim, Sleet, Scott Sleet, Joey Pegus, Steady Eddie, Doug ‘the Thug’ Tennant, Chug ‘Doo-Doo Bug’ Cross, Roy ‘Dirty Deed’ Breed, and Mr. Jimmy Wesley.
John Brown, Paul Robeson, Machine Gun Kelly, Ruth Dandridge, Pretty Boy Floyd, Al Capone, ‘Blind Lemon’ Jefferson, George Washington Carver, and Baby Face Nelson are all referenced in this novel. I call them “Referenced Characters” and provide a picture and reference information based on the novel.
This bulletin board also includes a display of maps and information related to the setting. All eleven ~ ‘Bud Caldwell’s Rules and Things’ are part of the bulletin board as well.
Make your bulletin board look professional with matted photos. Simply cut a colored piece of paper an inch larger than your captioned photo. The colors used for this project are the colors on the cover of the book. You should also use yellow when possible. Cutting is much easier and faster when using a paper trimmer. A glue stick works best for mounting your photos. After you have matted all your photos laminate them and you will be able to reuse your material year after year.
