The Buddy Bench is a phenomenal idea, created by a second grader in Pennsylvania. It is meant to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship. The idea has spread far and wide, and many schools now have Buddy Benches. Mine does!
I created this resource with the situation in mind where the Buddy Bench has become just another place to be lonely. Here are sixty cards printed on cute clipboard backgrounds that can be laminated , attached to a key ring or chain, and left on the Buddy Bench to use as ice breakers for conversation. My guess is that, once in conversation, kids will find they have lots in common, and will decide to get active together on the playground. These cards can also be kept inside the classroom so kids who are still building confidence can select an ice breaker or two to try out at recess time. Try leaving them at your writing center. They make excellent quick writes!
All cards are provided in full color and black/white. Printing on cardstock and laminating is recommended. Laminating the cards with 5ml will make them weatherproof! BONUS: Poster Cards in full color and in black/white for your kids to color in. Five ml lamination will make them last a long time to decorate your school’s Buddy Bench!
