This activity is designed to help students understand the budget making process for governments in the United States. The activity is based on a simplified version of most state’s budget-making processes. The fundamental structure and objectives of the assignment can be used for teaching Federal Government courses, as well. Students will be challenged to consider the ramifications of economic restraints, causing them to make hard decisions about what policy areas to prioritize. It also focuses on the influence that interest groups have on the budget-making process. This activity, therefore, has the flexibility to fit into multiple plaices within any curriculum.
