This was an eye opening experience for my students who can't wait to get out on their own. In this project the students are provided with links to find a job, an apartment, a car, annual fuel, annual car insurance, cell phone, satellite, internet, electricity and gas for the apartment, food, clothing, and entertainment. The project not only requires the students to gather information and pick the appropriate plan for them, but it requires to go back and correct the problem if they end up not being able to afford their monthly expenses with the job they select. Some of my students had to go back and find a second job. Guidelines for the project as well as student work is included as an example. This is a great real world math project! It is great for independent study when compacting curriculum or for extra credit if not used as a project requirement for the whole class.
