Budgeting- Budget Busters-Building Budgets- Creating Budgets for 2 Teens
This is a fun activity to use when teaching students about budgeting to give them a hands-on experience on how to create a budget. Students will use either Google Sheets or Excel, whichever you prefer. Directions include both. Students are given two different scenarios about a teen and his/her income and expenses, etc. They are then given detailed step-by-step directions on how to go about creating a budget for each one. They are given a diagram to use to create the categories, etc. Students then need to list income, classify expenses as fixed or variable and create formulas/calculate income, expense totals, and surplus/deficit. They also get practice making adjustments to a budget.
The download is a zip folder that includes a detailed instruction sheet, an Excel spreadsheet starter for you to use to do the assignment with the students if you want or to provide to student who got behind, etc. It also includes the answer key. This is a great activity for students to do in a Personal Finance or Business/Consumer Math course, etc. when learning about budgeting.
