Pages 4-18: HUG BUG RHYMING (Rhyming):
78 rhyming picture words, Rhyming Mat and Score Card. Print out all of the cards and multiple copies of the rhyming mat and score cards (pages 3-4) cut out and laminate.
How to Play: 1You can have the students match rhyming words together. For older students, have them draw a card and verbally provide a rhyming word. For each rhyming pair they find, they can present it to everyone on their rhyming mat. They can keep score by either writing their paired rhyming words or tallying their pairs on their scorecards. Easy data collection for you!
Pages 19-33: Let’s Find Fireflies! Initial Sound Sort (Alliteration):
60 firefly pictures arranged by initial sounds and 10 firefly jar sound mats. Print, cut and laminate 1 copy of the cards and mats.
How to Play: lay out the sound mats and put the cards in a pile in the middle of the table. Have the students draw the card and sort the cards by initial sounds to their respective mats. You can use the scorecards (page 3) from the Rhyming Game for the students to keep track of how many they correctly sort.
Pages 34-44: Insect Syllable Sort (Segmentation):
48 multi-syllabic picture words containing 2-4 syllables. 3 syllable mats provided. Print, cut and laminate a copy of all of the cards and multiple copies of the syllable mats.
How to Play: Put all of the syllable cards in a pile. Each player draws a card and sorts it to the appropriate syllable mat. Each player can be given a set of syllable mats (2-4 syllables), or you can use one set for the entire game. Use the scorecards if you want to incorporate some social skills/friendly competition into the game.
