Bugs includes writing printables for eleven different bugs: ant, bee, beetle, butterfly, caterpillar, dragonfly, grasshopper, katydid, ladybug, mosquito, and walking stick. I also include one printable for students to choose a bug that is not included in the packet.
Have your students gather information about bugs from reading an assortment of multi-leveled non-fiction bug books that meet the needs of your students.
Your students can choose a bug and write 3 facts they have learned about that bug. Each printable has a place for them to illustrate their writing. They also share what they have learned by reading the facts to two friends. The children who have been read to write their names on the lines. It’s a way for students to learn about the animals from each other.
You can place the printables at a thematic science center or use them during your writing block for guided or independent writing.
I also include half-page sized posters of each of the bugs. Both colored and black and white versions are included. These can be laminated and placed on a pocket chart or word wall or placed at a writing center for reference.
The packet also includes bug word lists. The colored version of the bug word lists can be laminated and used for small group instruction or placed at a writing center. The black and white version can be used for individual student writing. The students can place them in a writing folder for reference.
