Sight words are the most commonly used words in the English language. The majority of the words that we read are considered sight words.
For example, Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address is 63% sight words!
When students know sight words on demand, they are able to work on decoding other words. Reading becomes less frustrating and more strategic.
Check out these sight word statistics:
*12 Sight words make up about 25% of those we read and write.
*100 Sight words make up about 50% of those we read and write.
*About 300 Sight Words account for 75% of those we read and write.
Now comes the issue of being able to SPELL sight words.
Students are able to READ sight words far earlier than they can actually SPELL sight words. I wanted to create a hands-on way for kids to practice spelling their sight words.
This BUNDLE builds 300 Fry Sight Words!

Each Build a Word Packet: Sight Word Edition card offers students the opportunity to practice reading simple sentences and insert a predictable sight word into the set of sentences.
This type of learning allows students to see, hear, say and build sight words, making the learning process far more effective!
There are two versions included for each packet
Each sight word is broken down into boxes. These boxes allow students to see how many letters are in the sight word and minimally supports the type of letter. For example, m's and w's will be a bit wider, l's and i's will be a bit skinner. This small amount of visual support helps student build confidence while building words.
This is a single box version that requires students build the sight word independent of the width of the boxes. However, the single box version provides minimal support by showing the student how many letters are needed to build the sight word.
When these packets are used consistently and consecutively, teachers/parents are able to help students become confident spellers with those tricky sight words!
