This word work activities will be a hit with your students! Students will love being able to use a variety of manipulatives to make words!
Since there is such a variety of words you will be able to pull these cards out all year long and differentiate the cards depending on your students needs!
There are 14 CVC "Build It" cards, 17 CVCC/CCVC "Build It" cards, 5 CVCE "Build It" cards, and 14 "All Mixed Up (CVC, CVCC, CCVC, and CVCE words) Build It Cards."
To Build Words:
Provide students with letter tiles, magnetic letters or Lego letters (I purchased Lego letters from lakeshore- but you could write on Legos with a permanent marker.) Students should take a “Build it” card and spell the words with the manipulatives.
To Build Sentences:
This activity can be done in so many ways! Provide students with “Build It” cards at a writing center. Students can build sentences using the words on the cards.
Students can also use this activity during morning work. Place a variety of cards on the students desks and have them write the words or sentences with the words. s
Place CVC “Build it” cards in a red folder, the CVCC/CCVC word “Build it” cards in a yellow folder, and the CVCE or all mixed up “Build it” cards in a green folder. Assign students a color and have them work from that folder.
Common Core Standard:
K.RFS.3.a- Demonstrate basic knowledge of letter-sound correspondence by producing the primary or most frequent sound for each consonant.
K.RFS.3.b- Associate the long and short sounds with the common spelling patterns for the 5 major vowels.
1.RFS.3.a- Know the spelling-sound correspondences for common consonant digraphs.
1.RFS.3.b- Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words
1.RFS.3c- Know final –e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.
