Middle School math project where students build their dream home using calculations of area, costs of building materials, etc. Students are given money from Lottery winnings, taxed on those winnings, and then begin planning their dream home. Students choose a lot, calculate average room sizes based on classroom data, determine room sizes for their home, calculate costs of building materials and labor, and complete by building a scale model using their floor plans. The scale models can be done however the teacher chooses -- Google SketchUp, physical models with cardboard and legos, etc.
My students love this project and I hope yours will too!
