Build Your Own Greek Polis -Student Activity encourages students to creativity explore the dynamics of establishing an Ancient Greek polis by having them build their own fictional polis within the confines of the historical context of Greek polis'. The activity teaches students the essentials of Greek polis all the while encouraging them to put themselves in the shoes of the founders of these ancient polis'.
Built for use in a 6th grade Ancient History course in Oakland, CA. When used in the classroom students usually work in pairs to build their polis and then present their polis' to the rest of the class. Students are asked to populate the map on page 1 with the location the other fictional polis'. This lesson is used before introducing the famous polis' of Sparta and Athens.
