Birds build the most amazing nests and they don't even have hands! In this STEM challenge your students try their hand at engineering a nest that is large enough and sturdy enough to hold up to 4 eggs and a sitting bird. (I use mini plastic eggs and a Beanie Baby bird.) They use the same materials that birds commonly use, but have the benefit of fingers and thumbs - it still isn't easy!
For older students you can challenge them to find a way to secure their nest to a "tree". Your students will come away with a whole new appreciation for birds and their nest building abilities.
