Teach the formula for writing an organized and succinct counter argument/refutation paragraph!
This activity provides scaffolded practice building a counter argument and corresponding refutation paragraph. An essay is provided, with intro and three body paragraphs intact. However, the counter argument/refutation paragraph is missing. The essay argues in favor of standardized testing. Using a choice menu of transition words and predeveloped counter arguments (counter claims) and refutations, students will create 3 different combinations that argue against standardized testing. Choose the best combination and write out the paragraph so that it is organized and flows.
