These printable, narrative writing activities are based on my best selling Build A Story Writing Packet. Developing an imaginative story from a prompt can be a challenge for many young writers. This packet is designed to assist with the development of a character and put it into a setting with a problem. They are then challenged to create their own solution to the problem. Thus a story is born!
With the fun theme of Ireland and the Irish myths around St. Patrick’s Day, the children are able to focus on the skills of developing a protagonist, antagonist, setting and resolution/conclusion. There is also a game which requires the children to write their own cause for stated effects, thus practicing the skill of identifying and creating conflict and solution. This is both a game and an engaging learning activity in one thematic packet!
28 story building cards for matching, picking and choosing, however you wish to play with your class. I like to copy and laminate the cards so that the kids can write directly on the cards with dry erase felt markers over and over again.
