This is a number sense game for students to practice the different ways to represent numbers. They are subitizing by recognizing numbers quickly. There are two levels of the game for the students, an easy and challenge version.
In the easy version, students take the middle of the flower which has a number 1-20.
NOTE: I like to separate the flowers into two sets (1-10 and then 11-20, this makes it more manageable for the students to look for the petals). Students look for the petals that match the middle number.
In the easy version, the petals for each flower will be the same color. The petals have different ways to show the number in the middle. The ways include; pennies, ten frames, tally marks, dice, and dominoes.
In the challenge version, the game play is the same the only difference is that the petals for the flower will be different colors. This makes it more challenging, because students will not be able to use color to help them build their flower. The game is finished when students have built their entire garden!
I developed this game to help my students subtilize numbers. It can be used with any math curriculum. I hope you enjoy this game as much as my students do!
